I was forewarned by locals that Hertz Cooma was utterly useless, and it turned out they were correct. Multiple calls to the location before arrival went unanswered. On arrival, the self-serve kiosk necessitated picking up a Hertz telephone and speaking to an operator -- which (frustratingly) also went unanswered. To add insult to injury, we could see available cars waiting for hire in the lot, but were unable to access them. In the end we had no choice but to leave empty-handed, as Hertz does not staff the location; it's all done through a bizarre and dysfunctional remote call centre system. This is precisely what locals told us we could expect, but it was very annoying nonetheless.
